Lab12: Ed Miliband Speech to Conference

Good but not great speech by Labour Leader, Ed Miliband to Conference. The stage management stuff just doesn't work for me but nearly everybody else seemed really pleased with content and delivery.

I like the content. The "One Nation" argument and the hint about a truly alternative economic policy. Likewise the emphasis on the unacceptable gap between rich and poor. The need for greater income equality.

It's the devil is in the detail problem.  The only way that we are going to get people back in work and reduce the national debt is to spend more in the short term.

The only way we are going to get greater income equality is by taxing more and providing more public services such as affordable housing and child care. We need to be open and honest with the public about this. Or am I just being incredibly naive? Discuss...

Spend More >> Is n't this why we are in this mess in the first place.

The billions spent on the Olympics have delivered nothing.

Give the money to businesses both small and large. These are true wealth creators. They should not pay tax until they reach £3million turnover. We need to sow the seeds, to in the future they can pay tax and pay for the things we want as a country.

You don't need more taxation, however loop holes need to be closed. You have big companies registered in offshore tax havens...

Hi anon

Good idea! Perhaps we could call it "Hug a toffie" :)

The reason we are in this state is the deception and fraud of the Banking industry not overspending.

Don't agree either about your remark about Olympics.

Would agree that we should reduce taxes for small businesses that are investing. But what these businesses need is demand. There is no demand. We have to borrow to create demand and create growth.

Defo close big companies tax evasion.
