Meet the Regional Council Officers

On right is the 2nd page from the latest “UNISON in LONDON” newsletter - spring 2008. The feature is about the elected lay Regional Council Officers (RCO’s) for London UNISON. We were elected at the AGM in February.

Social Services Officer, Gloria Hanson who is Regional Convenor; Hospital Electrician, Conroy Lawrence is Deputy Convenor; Hospital Finance Officer, Sarah Lewis is Young Persons Convenor; my good self is Finance Convenor; VAT tribunal officer, Lynn Bentley is Publicity Officer and last but not least College Administrator, Gill Brown is Equalities Convenor.

Give the Bill Some Balls

Excellent clip posted on YouTube by UNISON Young members on the Climate Change Bill after their conference in Glasgow early this month.

Despite my youthful good looks obviously many will be surprised that I am no longer eligible to be a UNISON young member. But the future of the union seems in good hands.

There are 75,000 young members in UNISON (out of 1.4 million). They think that the Climate Change Bill currently going through Parliament is a good thing but want the government to be bolder and increase the target for the reductions in emissions from 60 to 80% by 2050.

The target should also include air and shipping interests.

They ask for this link to be passed on to MP’s, friends, relatives and work colleagues.

Their dreams turn to ashes..... London UNISON sees off United Left

This is a quick post on the main Election results of the (Ash Wednesday) London UNISON AGM that took place today.

I was very pleased that I was re-elected as Regional Finance convenor. However, we won all the Regional Council posts with Gloria Hanson being elected Regional Convenor, Conroy Lawrence: Deputy Convenor, Lynn Bentley: Publicity Officer and Gill Brown as Equalities Convenor. Sarah Lewis was re-elected unopposed as Young Person convenor.

Commiserations to all those who lost (sincere this time since I have lost elections in the past and will no doubt lose others in the future). But many, many thanks for all those who voted for us.

We’re find out the result of the other committee elections tomorrow. I’ll post a full report on the AGM as soon as I can (just back from a Labour Party “fish and chips supper” fundraiser for Ken and the GLA elections – so it has been a long day)
