"UK workers’ pension funds now own just 6% of UK listed shares" (and the rest by tax avoiders/evaders?)

Check out this TUC report on the 90% decline of UK shareholding by UK Pension funds. Our UK companies are now largely owned by tax avoiders (or worse)

  • "UK workers’ pension funds get little from FTSE100 share dividends and buy-backs
  • New report recommends company law reform and stronger collective bargaining rights to restore fairness for UK workers
  • New polling shows 76% of workers back a legal obligation for businesses to give as much weight to the interests of their staff as shareowners

New research published today (Monday) by the TUC, Common Wealth, and High Pay Centre shows that UK workers get comparatively little benefit from share dividends – despite common claims that they do.

The report Do dividends pay our pensions? finds that the proportion of UK shares directly held by UK pension funds fell from almost one in three in 1990 to less than one in 25 by 2018 – a decline of over 90%.

Over this period, ownership of UK public companies shifted from UK pension funds to foreign owners and investors whose identities are often obscured by lax reporting rules.

The authors say that workers in UK listed firms deserve a clearer understanding of who now benefits from their labour, and how much is captured by a wealthy minority".

100 business creeps: Labour threatens our cosy fat cat life

"Today big Tory Business lines up to attack ED Miliband and Labour by sending a letter to a right wing paper saying it would be a disaster if Labour are elected.... Look carefully at these companies and individuals.

They comprise of Corporate Tax Dodgers, Minimum Wage Payers, Anti-Union, Tory Party Donors, Multi Millionaire Chair's of Companies who think Tax Avoidance is their right.

They are worried that their cosy fat cat life will be challenged, that's why they are backing the Tories with this predictable "Open Letter Nonsense "If it wasn't April Fools Day I would have said it was a sick joke....."

Well said Mr Rayner, I couldn't put it better myself.
