BNP email from “Cheshire Cat”

This evening I received a rather “odd” email from someone, who after a bit of digging, I now know to be a BNP activist in North West England (not called as claimed in the email “Charles Atlas”!). Which I suppose explains everything.

But surely in this email he cannot mean me!..."you sound to (sic) good to be true....you have to (sic) many fingers in to(sic) many pies...you certainly like to blow your own trumpet don't you, the list is endless".

Mo? Never?

Apart of course from the “if we were all like you life would be marvellous” bit.

Has any other non “Hitler worshipping cult” bloggers received similar emails?

Anyway - this is what was sent to me probably via the email address on my blog today at 18.26 :-

He asked for a read receipt which I sent and I also replied to the email with a short but sweet

“Oh well, you can’t win them all in a democracy!”.

NB: He actually seems more like the “Mad Hater” (no sic) than the “Cheshire Cat”?

Hat-tip thingy to an ace post here on Harry’s Place about how Nick Griffin and the BNP are not just right wing nationalists who just don’t like immigrants. In reality they are Nazi's (followers of Germany National Socialism) and fascists who admire, defend and promote Adolf Hitler and want to replicate his regime in our own country. They are really a Hitler Worshiping Cult.

Now, this not mean that we should just right off the million odd voters who voted for the BNP at the last European union’s election and also to simply keep calling the BNP Nazi’s (not matter how accurately) by itself is not enough. But we need to let people know on the doorstep that the BNP is a foreign, anti British, unpatriotic, extremist rabble led by convicted criminals and violent hooligans. Check out this shortened version of the Harry’s Place 10 examples of how BNP leaders are apologists for Hitler:

9. Mark Collett the BNP’s director of publicity, said of Winston Churchill: “Churchill was a f***ing c**t who led us into a pointless war with other whites [ie the Nazis] standing up for their race”.
10. “There is a strong, direct link from Oswald Mosley to me,” Griffin boasted.

Last year I was at a Labour Party street stall in Stratford when we had a discussion with a young white woman who flippantly said if she was black she wouldn’t mind the BNP getting into power since they would give her a plane ticket to the West Indies. A black British Labour Party member present who happened to be born and bred in East London responded by saying “look love - if the BNP ever got in power they wouldn’t send people like me on a holiday – they would stick us in camps and gas us”.

Nuff said.

Veterans against the BNP

The BNP appear to want to hang all British generals (and I suppose all the soldiers carrying out their orders) who have served in Afganistan and Iraq as "war criminals". Hmmm. Check out Nothing British about the BNP website (the site appears to have been hi-jacked at the mo.)

Myths, Lies and Hate about Immigration and Public Housing

Racist lies put out by the BNP and their “Daily Hate” cheerleaders are pretty much exposed by research from the National Housing Federations (aka the “Fed” in Housing Association circles).

The BNP have somewhat successfully peddled the myths that homes are being given to immigrants ahead of “local families”. Which those of us who actually work in providing front line housing services have always known to be rubbish. The Fed reveals that in 2008/09 only 4.6% of lettings went to non-UK citizens.

This builds on other published research by the Local Government Association and the Equality and Human Rights Commission that only 2% of people who live in public housing were born outside the UK and that most new migrants end up in the “bottom end of private housing”.

This will give me some information to use when out canvassing and you come across people who genuinely believe that the only reason why they or their children cannot be rehoused is due to "immigrants". Sometimes they are even black Brits who have swallowed the racist’s line in frustration at their own personal overcrowding housing misery.

Now, I support in principal the idea that there should be a greater priority in local authority waiting lists for “local people”. But until we start building sufficient new homes for rent for those in the greatest of need as well as for general needs it is all simply moonshine.

What we need is political will and action - a mass national housing programme - this is as evidence based and joined up thinking as you can get it.

Hope Not Hate “Not in My Name” Anti-BNP Petition

“Hope not Hate” have set up an on-line petition for people to register their opposition to BNP Griffin and Brons who were elected as MEPs.

It is pretty clear that they were only voted in since many electors decided not to go to the ballot box because of the British Parliamentary allowances crisis.

Despite the BNP total vote being reduced when compared to 2004 they still won this time due to a low turnout and very marginal improvement in their % vote.

We know that democrats do have to address the issue of why people vote for the BNP and that just name calling (or even “egging”) is not enough. But I really don’t think that people understand that the BNP leadership are supporters of Hitler and Nazism.

I also think that the Labour Party everywhere needs to get its act together and start knocking on doors and listening to people; tele-canvassing; holding street stalls, creating local Labour Action Teams, delivering leaflets and most importantly countering face-to-face the lies and hate of the BNP and their fellow travellers.

You can take a picture of yourself holding a message “Not in My Name” and upload it. Some 56,000 people have voted so far.

Final countdown to London Euro-elections

This morning I was delivering this leaflet to my ward. By co-incidence the UKIP MEP Gerard Batten lives close by and yesterday I posted one of our leaflets through his letter box. No matter how daft and ignorant UKIP is at least they take votes away from the BNP.

This evening I was at West Ham HQ in Stratford busy trying to organise for tomorrow.

The Labour Party is going through a difficult time at the moment and it will be silly for activists to pretend otherwise. However, I am really encouraged by the relatively very high level of political campaigning activity recently in West Ham and Newham. I think this is a sign that Party is not quite in the state that some would suggest.

We are probably going to get a bit of a kicking tomorrow but I am still convinced that the General election will be fought “on the economy stupid”. The Government has bravely taken huge risks to rescue the economy which I believe are working and will soon expose the Tories who have unbelievably stuck to their “do nothing” and “lets have a depression” policies.

Now the back of a beermat calculation about the importance of turnout tomorrow.
e.g. If the BNP need 8% of the vote in London to secure an MEP then if only 1 million Londoners vote then they only need 80,000 voters across London to succeed. They can probably get that support.
BUT if 2 million Londoners vote they will need 160,000 voters to get a MEP. Which they will find very, very difficult.

So everyone - get the vote out! But still Vote Labour.

Lest we forget: BNP: Traitors to our Country

This is another superb leaflet from “Hope not Hate” reminding people of the true nature of the BNP/Nazi beast. They are traitors to our country for supporting Hitler’s Nazi ideology in Britain. Especially during a time when we remember the bravery and sacrifice of our troops during the D Day landings which led to the liberation of occupied Europe from the Nazi.
