UNISON London Mayor and Assembly telecanvass bank

This is a great photo I think of some of the UNISON Labour Party activists at the telecanvass bank in our headquarters in Euston this evening. I helped out tonight for the first time and was very impressed with the modern technology that UNISON has and the ease of contacting members.

We rang UNISON members for voter identification purposes in the London Mayoral and Assembly elections. By coincidence this evening we called up UNISON members in my own Borough, Newham.

There was a software training session beforehand but once we were up and running we contacted 200 members in just over an hour. Which is pretty good going.  Double click picture to bring up detail.

UNISON Housing Association branch Chair (and Chair of National Young Members) Joel Bodmer was one of the team (see picture on right). After all that talking some of us had to retire to a local hostelry to refresh ourselves (and once again put the world to rights)

plablegThe use of the term "Red Ken" has been very succucessful for the Conservative press ...... it is sad that terms such as "Bully Boy Boris" or "Rich Boy Boris" are not applied.

In the Telegraph (Mandrake April 18) is this interesting item

“Those who bought properties to let near the Olympic Village in London are reportedly finding that the Games are not the money-spinning bonanza they had envisaged
One wonders' if the prices that at least one local restaurant is charging during the Games might not also put people off. Dinner at Forman's; which is close to the Olympic Stadium and once featured in Celebrity Mastererchef costs about £70.
During the Olympic Games the price rises to £300 to £450 when the athletics and cycling finals are held. On the days of the opening and closing ceremonies, it costs £1,000.”

I looked up “Forman’s” in Google

http://www.formansfishisland.com/

The whole of this site makes interesting reading …….in particular you should look at the gallery photos (including the opening by Boris Johnson) and the testimonials.

It looks as if a number of corporate bodies are already doing well out of the Olympic Games and this rather expensive fish shop ……from the photos it looks like a converted warehouse …… maybe they built a new warehouse for this ”chipy”. I am sure the people of Stratford will be grateful for this added amenity!

Hi anon 12.16

Agreed but what do you expect from our press I'm afraid!

Hi Anon

It is actually the people of Bow who may or may not be grateful (it’s in Tower Hamlets). I must admit that I can remember the state that Fish Island use to be in so this is an improvement.

Business is business and they are all going to use the Olympics to fill the tills. £1000 for grub does seem a tab excessive. There are nearby cafe’s/Pie and Mash on the Roman Road where you will get a much, much better deal :)
