NHS staff work one million hours of overtime.

Under the Tories, NHS staff work one million hours of unpaid overtime every week.
The Tories can't be trusted with the NHS.

There are 1.2m people employed by the NHS in the UK... therefore even if your facts are correct its about 45 minutes per person each week... that's not the end of the world. I do much more than that and so do most other people? Its normal I guess you do the same in your role John?

Not everyone does unpaid overtime but are you trying to say unpaid overtime a good thing? Doctors, surgeons, technicians, nurses working excess hours with no recompense?

I think that being committed to doing a good job and going the extra mile is fairly normal no matter what role you are in. I think that 45 minutes per week is no big deal. No big headline. No big hardship. I think you probably do more than 45 minutes per week unpaid? Correct? Many people travel to work and it takes more than 45 minutes per week. I think doctors, consultants in particular are well paid and have great pensions, and 45 minutes per week is no sweat. After all most of them manage to also carry out their private lists on top of this. If Doctors and technicians are so overworked then I guess we ought to stop all their private work? Did you ever meet a poor doctor over the age of thirty...? I don't think so.

its an average and yes I have met in A&E knackered Doctors and nurses working extra unpaid hours

I'm also knackered. Lot's of people are knackered. People with kids who stay at home are knackered. Even billionaires are also frequently knackered. So what if you have to do 45 minutes of overtime a week unpaid, particularly if you are committed to public service. It's not the end of the world.

Personally, I don't want knackered doctors and nurses working very long shifts treating me or my family. Maybe it is just me?

If after 45 minutes of unpaid overtime a week you are knackered then I suggest the sooner you see a doctor the better..

When I went with my 77 year old mother to A&E last year via ambulance in the early hours the doctor who examined her had been on a double shift and was very professional but knackered.

Well its hardwork being a doctor particularly at the beginning, everyone knows that, however later on the financial rewards are great particularly with all their prospective private work. Frankly I can't remember a year when the doctors didn't say they were under resourced and overworked - (under whichever Government you care to name), and I'm sure your 77 year old Mum would confirm that.
Like most other people I also have experience of the NHS and I have to say its mixed... and its not all about funding. It's a bit like dealing with the council in many respects.

the truth is that you don't care about the NHS do you?

The NHS costs £2200 per year per citizen (2017/2018). That's £8,800 for a family with two children. Assuming one parent is working (big assumption) that person would have to earn just over £50,000 pa JUST to pay for the cost of the NHS... (£8,700 income tax, £4,520 NI). That would leave them no living expenses, and no tax contribution to any other part of the state whatsoever. This is the fundamental issue that you don't seem to understand. So the next time we hear Corbyn say "no one minds paying a bit more tax for the NHS" you should understand the maths behind the scale of the issue.

1st fake news and now fake maths. Can you link your nonsense to any source?

The only thing your response confirms is that you are unaware of the cost of the NHS, but I realize that is Labour all over.... however, happy to clarify the facts, which are all in the public domain anyway..
https://fullfact.org/health/what-is-the-nhs-budget/
That adequately and independently summarizes the cost person 2017/2018
Then go to any take home pay calculator such as https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php
or indeed any reputable UK take home pay calculator...
I hope you accept the facts or make a reasoned fact based response with some real numbers yourself and not just some political crap..

Ah Potty mouth anon is back. The NHS is not funded solely out of income tax? It is funded by employee national insurance and employer national insurance as well as general taxation (progressive income tax, VAT etc).

Your "argument" (whatever it really is - I think you are trying to say that families earning over £80,000 cannot afford to pay more tax?) is silly and nonsensical (IMO of course)

I am pointing out to you the equivalent of the cost per person of the NHS annually and making clear the amount of tax (from whatever source) that would need to be raised to pay for it. I'm making the point that a large number of people don't actually generate enough in earnings to actually pay their equivalent cost of the NHS. The cost is £2200 per person per year (2017/18) and this is undisputed. The amount each individual had to earn annually was just over 23K pa JUST to raise enough tax to pay for the NHS, however a lot of people are not working. IOts quite simple really. Didn't think you would understand it.

Dear Potty Mouth Cowardly Anon

We do not link our taxation in this way to spending in our country!!!! I know this is a little complicated but you must be really thick not to understand this?

Anonymous said...

I understand this perfectly well...just pointing out the vast majority of people don't contribute anywhere near enough in tax even to simply pay for the NHS... let alone anything else. You are a higher rate tax payer John....so even you must get it.

It's not fake news then after all?

John Gray said...

yes, fake news and fake maths. People do not spend £2200 out of their wages to support the NHS
