The normally mild mannered blogger, Tom P, at Capital and Labour tells us as it is! Tom tears to pieces this ignorant Torygraph bile from today’s editorial.
Pensions can be easily portrayed as pretty boring but are actually desperately important to everyone but the very rich. Why on earth does the mouthpiece of the supposedly non-tabloid and “educated” Tory press want public servants to join the national race to the gutter over pension provision?
The local Government Pension scheme was actually brought into existence in the 1920’s by early Town Hall trade unionists many of whom were committed (even in my beloved Labour West Ham!) Conservative Party activists.
Surely we should be driving standards up for everyone? My public sector pension actually costs my employer far less than its personal pension stakeholder.
What kick do this new generation of Tories get out of the prospect of misery and poverty for the many in old age?

Hi John, good to see you bringing these issues to people's attention. Those of us that work in the Public Sector are told continuously that our pensions are 'unsustainable', and 'expensive'. Failing to realise that the average Local Government Pension is somewhere in the region of £3,800.00. Hardly earthshattering is it?!
Most of these right-wing reactionaries fail to see that the vast majority of people working in both Local Govt and the Health Service are low-paid, part-time, female workers who work hard all thier lives for very little material return.
Despite this, the right-wing media still find room to witch-hunt them into a state of Privitized Hell, after they have made half the workforce redundant!
And people tell us there is no difference between us and the Tories. Who are they kidding, John.
But hey, why are we worried??!! After all, the Revolution is only 'just around the corner'??!!
so did the telegragh say what the average council workers pension was
£50 a week
really gold plated
remind me what an MPs is or a Telegraph journalist
how about Mr Blacks (former owner) when hes not in jail
Spot on John. Public Sector Workers face attacks on their pensions if the Tories get in and we'll face big cutbacks in Local Government. Two good reasons to vote labour.

Good on you John for exposing the Tory trash press and their attempts to attack the public sector! Can you email me those pics from Brighton please? Cheers
Nick
They must have got some lessons from the Labour lying Party.
You must be soooo proud.
Hi mrcentreleft
Spot on again! Some people are indeed genuinely thick or stupid and don’t see a difference others sadly want the Tories to win since they believe it will usher in the "Great Day" or the birth of a “new workers party” (aka the “Lost Deposit Brigade”).
Hi Anon

Hi Nick
Thanks for the invite – I’ll take you up on that. Maybe I should speak to your branch committee about my all time favourite TV show - "The Office"!
