Barnsley by-election leaflet "It's Lib Dem or Labour here!"

The actual result of course was:-

Dan Jarvis (Lab) 14,724
Jane Collins (UKIP) 2,953
James Hockney (C) 1,999
Enis Dalton (BNP) 1,463
Tony Devoy (Ind) 1,266
Dominic Carman (LD) 1,012
Kevin Riddiough (Eng Dem) 544
Howling Laud Hope (Loony) 198
Michael Val Davies (Ind) 60

Lab maj 11,771: Turnout 36.5%

In 2010 the Lib Dems only beat the Tories by 6 votes.

Interestingly the new Labour MP, Dan Jarvis, is the first Barnsley MP not to be born in Yorkshire or be a former miner.  However, he did serve in the Parachute regiment.  Which went down well in this traditional working class seat.

I was a Labour activist until Tony Blair took Labour to the right from 1997, then I withdrew my membership.

The point im making is that I get sick and tired of people refering to New Labour as Labour", because New Labour were'nt Labour, they were Thatcherite.

So starting with Thatcher in 1979, and then New Labour continuing her policies from 1997, this means we have had Thatcherism for v30 years in Britain.

Hi Link-age

Dan is a new Labour MP (as in "brand new").

The Party moved right to the centre long before Blair.

In my view it is plain silly to argue that New Labour is Thatcherite. This is the sort of nonsense that resulted in the Tories getting in again.

Another great lib Dem bar chart just 6 votes ahead of the Tory in 2010

What a joke the Lib dems have become

With Sir Peter Soulsby being selected to stand as candidate for Mayor of Leicester that in turn will lead to a parliamentary by election, I think a perfect Labour candidate would be former PPC Annelise Dodds who stood for you in Reading East as she is a lecturer at a university herself and would have a deep understanding of what students are going through and would be fantastic in delivering blows to the Con Dems and perhaps you could mention this to Ed Milliband!

Hi Damien

The next time Ed pops round to ask me what he and the Party should be doing - I'll put in a good word for her :)
