Does Feminism need an upgrade? Sunday Night Live 20 March
"Women, intersectionality and the politics of gender equality today
As celebrations for International Women’s Day 2016 come to an
end, evoking struggles of the past, challenges of today and a renewed
push for gender parity as women continue to lag behind men
in economic participation and opportunity by 15 to 25 percent in even
the most gender-equal societies; this Sunday Night Live session explores whether feminism needs an upgrade in an age where:
Thephenomenon of ‘white feminism’ has led to criticisms that feminism should not be about gender alone;
Intersectionality has brought race, class and transgender issues to the forefront of feminist politics and debates;
There are increasing concerns that men are being left
behind in an age of technological disruption and economic decline, while
women are progressing because of the pursuit of gender equality.
