“On the Knocker”

Picture of Forest Gate North canvass (“knocking up”) team at about 7pm last night. Other members and local Councillors were outside some of the ward polling stations.

Early on in the day we had to dodge rain and even hail. I finished off in Stratford at 9.30pm with a hastily arranged final knock up from the tele canvassing teams in the Party rooms at 306 High Street.

Personally, I thought we did very well. In the rest of the country Labour doesn’t seem to have done that "great". Mid-term third term blues? No doubt everyone will have an opinion. West Ham is a “safe” seat for Labour, but did we get enough people voting to out sway Boris in the Tory heartlands? Off now to the Excel centre as a counting agent to find out. Result due anytime from 2pm to 8pm.

Er...I don't understand how you don't understand politics and political comment and organising.
It's absolutely essential that John uses his blog to inform and encourage and advise, and sure from time to time he makes predictions - but rarely in isolation from the context of needing to make things happen and the importance of getting out and doing the work.

And anyway - I don't want infallibility in people - I want humanity and not the kind of snide cynicism you seem to have happily eating up what soul you may once have had. Or maybe you actually support a fascist presence in the GLA?

And FFS Boris Johnson IS a joke and we've got an f'in joke for Mayor of one of the world's greatest cities.

The fightback starts now and we need to learn how to pull together in OUR interests instead of sitting on the sidelines in loser loony-left fractions that can't even do better than the BNP at elections - whether the loony left unites or otherwise.

Hi Anon
Maybe – but regarding “Boris is a Joke”, I don’t think that I actually dismissed his threat as one? even though many people and Labour voters who did not vote obviously did.

I certainly never said that the BNP would not get any seats in the assembly (far from it). I hoped like any right minded democrat that they wouldn’t.

I put my hands up to thinking that Ken would win, even though I knew it was close. It was close as well and could have gone the other way. Such is politics.

Nope, I don’t think that I ever said that Gordon would be calling an election. I thought he might, but he didn’t. At the time I thought that was the right decision. Now of course, with the benefit of hindsight I’m not sure.

Please read things properly. It does help.

BTW – don’t worry, I be sharing with everyone the benefit of my views on the election results in the near future. Bet you can’t wait!

Don't delude yourself further...labour are history..the most wondrful thing is that Brown will now limp on clinging to a job he was not elected to, and will have to answer for the fact that this economy is totally unprepared for the coming recession. NO more nor bust! He just can't think on his feet..and Labour put him there! He is the best chance ever for the Conservatives ..I hope he stays the full term so he can account for the appalling mess we are in. "I am going to listen" ...should have listened to the huge number of pensioners whose pension funds you decimated mate!...he'll need to do more than get his teeth capped to save him now (bet it wasn't at an NHS dentist - there are none left!).
Good riddance to Ken..he couldn't believe it! Ha, Ha, Ha! Can't wait to hear the cabinet in the next few days...3rd place behind the Liberals...oh dear, oh dear.

I couldn't wait to log on this blog to see John eating his words...what planet are you on mate? Labour really screwed up thanks to Stalin and Ken. They are both operating in the past..who will challenge Brown? Its going to be a right laugh! Bring back that old bag at the Foreign Office with the curlers, snoring pills and the caravan, or Shagger Prescott. Will it be Balls or Darling. What a talentless bunch of socialist deadbeats. I hope Hazel Blears makes a challenge...hooray!

Hey Jim...practice what you preach comrade..."I prefer humility and not the kind of snide cynicism..." just before you go onto say Boris is a f'in joke"? Make your mind up.
It was great... just to see Ken's face...I bet Polly Toynbee can hardly get in her swimming pool at her Italian villa. 3rd place in the council elections..hooray!!! Can't wait for the news later..what a laugh! Browns going to have to endure two years of back stabbing now. Shame he bottled it last year.

Bit Late Now !!!
If George Galloway and the Respect Party did not give over the support to Ken and Biggs you would be up shit creek without a paddle now in City and East London

Hi Anon 1 and 2
Okay, we were beaten on Thursday, but the economy is in good shape and nearly all the policies are sound. You are of course wrong about the pension funds. We will be back and I think we will win again (and again, and again).

Hi Anon 3
I think that Jim is just worried about your soul and your happiness. You see what wonderful and considerate people Labour Party supporters are?

Hi Anon 4 (& 5)
I really enjoyed your comment. What sort of nonsense is Respect telling its members? They couldn’t even beat the Tories in City and East and there was no transferable vote to John Biggs? His majority in any case was more than the total number of assembly votes respect received? Even if all respect supporters voted for Ken then it would not have made a blind bit of difference to the final result?

Across London Respect (George Galloway) got 2.43% - even behind the Christian Choice Party.
