Nominations for Bethnal Green & Bow Over – Short listing Next

The race to become the next Candidate to beat disRespect and claim back Bethnal Green & Bow for Labour finished its first stage today. The final nomination meeting was held in Spitalfields. So far two candidates Rushanara Ali (GMB) and Lutfur Rahman (GMB) will be automatically short listed since they have received over 51% of the “vote” (it’s complicated). That leaves 9 other candidates who have been nominated fighting it out for 4 other places on the shortlist. The short listing will take place before the BG&B general committee (GC) on 14 April 2007. Candidates will have to make a short speech then answer questions. GC members have a free vote and the top four will take part in the final “hustings” and secret ballot on April 28th.

I will post a full list of the other candidates who have been nominated when I get the correct information. However, it includes AM John Biggs, Cllr Helal Uddin Abbas, Dr Rupa Huq and David Edgar

Ayub Korom Ali (UNISON) has two nominations and will be going for the shortlist. UNISON Labour Link will be backing him all the way.
