A Progressive Budget?

I’ve missed much of the analysis of todays budget due to my CLP AGM. (I was elected unopposed for a number positions including TULO officer and the Agent).

Joy of Joys! I am also a CLP delegate to this year’s Labour Party conference!

But have a look at the TUC’s Adam Lent post about the budget on ToUCHstones which is fairly positive.

I have been a bit "Labour movement busy" during the last 24 hours and will hopefully post on this sometime soon.

This budget has nothing to do with the economic well being of the British people but just to splurge our cash so that Brown can get elected. Everyone knows that public sector non-jobs need purging (now there's an old Labour concept)but the only people willing to vote Labour are public sector (non-)employed. Therefore, Brown can't alienate them by sacking them. Honestly, I am not one for putting democratically elected leaders on trial but as Brown and mandelson aren't, I think we can make an exception here. Milliband, Smith, Darling, Balls etc etc are just worthless hacks but Brown and Mandelson, in putting their own ambitions before the wellbeing of the nation, deserve their very own show trial - to inform and warn the restof that rabble of self-seeking leeches.

The economy is a total diaster. The IMF say it will contract by 4.1% this year and unemployment this first quarter has been rising at the highest rate ever in our history. Darling's budget was totally focused on the election hence the fantasy predictions on growth. The faces of the Labour front bench during the budget said it all. No more boom or bust...the Iron Chancellor, the golden economic rule, selling the gold..all are indications of real economic confidence. The Tories will be elected and they and the country will have no choice but to savegely cut back the size of the client state. Outstanding.

Having had a day to digest the budget, I have to disagree with the first blogger on this forum - Darling ought to be included in the show trial.
I am reminded of Alf Garnet's brilliant analysis of the differenvce between the Conservatives and Labour.

Churchill "Pick up your toold, mount your asses and we'll march to the promised land."
Wilson "Down tools, sit on your asses - this is the promised land."

From Attlee onwards, Labour has always been about getting someone else to pay for their access to power. In the 1960-1970s it was the rich who were supposed to pay. From the 1990s onwards it was back to Attlee - your children will pay. Shame on you - and no doubt you will be hoping to lose the next election so that you can blame the coming pain on the nasty Tories.

If Darling is going to - ahem - "invest" his way out of the recession why has he cancelled the two Royal Navy carriers again?

Ah... one day you will be a real Labour politician. Ducking the issues..appeals to prejudice...toeing the party line...anyone who disagrees is censored or reviled...these are all good qualifications. You wont have to do any thinking either... the Cybermen will do that for you (Hazal Blears).

Labour cancel the carriers because they are "institutionally" anti forces.

Oh well – there is hope for me yet then!
Hi Anon 17.08
Have they cancelled it? Got a link? BTW Don’t be silly about Labour being anti-forces.
