Good stuff, and here is to a Labour victory in Leyton and Wanstead -but maybe, just maybe, Terry should also reject his "endorsement" by former Tory Councillor Mike Law on this very Blog ?

Winston,

If Terry wishes to reject my endorsement then so be it. That's a choice for him.

However, I cannot change the fact that I know Terry and consider him a friend. The Labour Party is fortunate to have him as a member and as a potential candidate for Leyton and Wanstead.

I'm curious to know what it is about me that makes my endorsement seem such an embarrassment to you?

Is it the "former Tory" label?

Hi WW

"The curse of Mikey". I'm sure he "touched wood" very quickly!

Winston,

I forgot to add that I also endorse John with his candidacy for West Ham ward in the forthcoming locals.

I look forward to seeing him on the Council, when he will prove all those who tell me what a great guy he is 100% right...

Mike, the "former Tory( Councillor)label may indeed be a problem for an aspiring Labour MP,--- do you not think ?

Of course "current Tory " would indeed be even more of a problem.

Yes it is up to Terry to reject your endorsement, --and we shall see if he does. However, equally, he may be wise to do that in the view of the Leyton and Wanstead Labour Members he is currently seeeking support from.

I think you'll find that friendships often cut across party lines. Also, don't forget that Gordon Brown appointed Digby Jones to the government did he not?

Come, come, if Mike endorses Terry Paul it's a good thing.

Winston,

I see Terry as a man who could potentially make a difference; on the whole, the Terry I know will be, should he be selected and elected, a committed and thoughtful local MP and I am sure that his constituents will always come first.

One would think any endorsement for a candidate is no bad thing, and one that comes from an individual outside the party the candidate represents is an illustration of the broader appeal of that candidate. If the Labour members of Leyton and Wanstead cannot understand this and fail to select Terry because of my endorsement it will be their great loss.

How damaging was it for Alec Kellaway that he stood on a Lib Dem platform? And, I understand that one of the current Independent councillors in Newham (who was elected an a Respect candidate) is about to cross the floor to Labour. If he is to be selected to stand for Council as a Labour candidate (as I imagine may well happen) what does that say about Newham Labour members using the standard you claim is set by Leyton and Wanstead members?

I've touched wood (fingers and toes) and got silver bullets, loads of garlic, constant sunlight, mirrors, big wooden stake...:)

We shall just have to wait and see if Mike Law's ringing endorsement (assuming of course that Leyton and Wanstead Labour Party members know of Mike's existence )produces a landslide for Terry ...

John,

As it happens, I know a good number of people who live in the ward you’ll be contesting… I’ll put in a good word or two.

Winston,

I have no idea if any Leyton and Wanstead Labour Party members know me. My message of support for Terry was written as just that. He is a friend and I believe he’ll make a cracking MP (whatever political organisation he represents). My words were not intended as message to the Labour members of L & W, but if any of them read what I have to say about Terry and view it as a positive great! I cannot imagine that any of those members are small minded to the extent that they would view my words of support for Terry as a reason for not selecting him. If you take that way of thinking to its logical conclusion, Labour CLPs would not select candidates who may appeal to voters who wouldn’t ordinarily vote Labour… that’s a sure way to win an election. Are you a candidate’s agent?

Unknown said...

No I am not an agent for any candidate, --but reckon that John Cryer would be the best choice.

Agree with him, or disagree with him, --you know where you are.

His not a careerist, and he'd stay the course.

Mike Law said...

Winston,

Is that some sort implication that Terry is a "careerist" and wouldn't stay the course?

Not the Terry I know.

My understanding of John is that he is a good man and was a pretty decent (that word again John) MP for Hornchurch.

However, I'd say give our Terry a chance to prove himself.

Are you a Leyton and Wanstead Labour member?

Unknown said...

Mike, no I am not a Leyton and Wanstead Labour Party member.

My comments were not intended to "knock copy" but were intended to be positive ones in favour of John Cryer.

When you write of "our Terry" there is of course another contender with a Newham connection, --Rokshana Fiaz

Winston,

I understand your support for John, and I'm sure you accept and appreciate my support for Terry.

I don't know anything about Rokshana.
