Alex Hilton at Congress House Hustings

Wandering around after the event I saw someone talking to UNISON Labour Link committee member, Alan Griffiths (Local Government) whose name badge was vaguely familiarly. I suddenly realised it was Alex Hilton (left), of the Labour party supporters blog Labourhome fame. I tried to have a go at him for censoring one of my posts on this site for the use of the term “McNoHoper” but he wasn’t having any of it. He did say first that it was strange to meet somebody for the first time in person when you had previously only come across them on the Internet. Pictured with UNISON Labour Link committee member Ian Horrigan (Health).

Alan Griffiths -local government -where?Always nice to know the provenance of LL Committee members? Excuse my ignorance but I'm trying to find out more about LL.

was that censuring or censoring? V different things.

But surely all bloggers censor to some extendt or do not reply to comments? I asked you about your views on accountability and democracy of LL -which you allowed to be posted but had no views on?Y ou must surely have a view on this matter if you can criticise others for their blogs?V disappointed -thought you were one of the honest ones.

McNohoper -rather a petty and puerile term surely? the guy went out and worked and worked and worked and worked outside of a party machinery. I wasn't involved but I admired his stance.
Surely that is the essence of a democaracy -or do you subscribe to people siding with a party machine so long as they get elected.

Hi Anon 1
Alan is a UNISON member of Walham Forest LG and secretary of West Ham CLP. Hope that is ok?

Hi Anon
“But surely all bloggers censor to some extendt”
Apologies once again for not replying sooner to your original comments. Yes, you are right that blog administrators are allowed to “censor” posts or comments (as a last resort). However, I think that on reflection that Akex’s particular decision was wrong but understandable at that time.

“McNoHoper” was provocative then (lest so now of course) but it was not “abusive” which is how Alex (in good faith trying to calm things down) described it. The Ultra Left had been allowed to post their usual horrendous, nasty and personal abusive stuff for ages. So in that context I felt that Alex was wrong. Still – who would be an editor!

But I thought that the ultra right in UNISON had also been publishing some rather nasty and vindictive stuff too? Certainly seemed to have support of some officers. Not sure its a healthy example to set.

Hi Anon
Two wrongs don't make a right.I also think (but cannot yet prove) that there are "trojan horse" blogs set up to attack people in UNISON (and now Amicus) by the Ultra-left to try and discredit the centre left and pay off scores against ultra left "comrades".
