West Ham Ward Surgeries - in and out

This morning I cycled to Stratford Library for my West Ham Councillor surgery in Stratford Library. It was really busy and I also had 2 consecutive residents seeking advice on housing eviction notices. One was very imminent and both were not in the best of health. I had to contact the Newham "out of hours" service and have direct conversations with both of them.

I wonder if both of these apparently "no fault" evictions have been triggered by this Labour Government Renters Rights Bill (due to be implemented on 1 May 2026?).

I will be raising members enquiries on both cases.

This afternoon I met first with my fellow ward candidates for May 2026 elections, Adjoa and Sam, at the Plaistow cafe for campaign planning and then went on a West Ham ward Street surgery with Labour colleagues.

We had 2 teams out in the ward and 3 people who have never canvassed before but all of them after "on the job" training were knocking on doors at the end. Some really positive contacts, some more difficult but always interesting conversations with residents.

Everyone I spoke too I think were pleased we knocked on their door, introduced ourselves and then listened. Then maybe respond but not always. Listening is best but people also want answers.
