On the knocker for Labour Blossom Young in Beckton with Sir Stephen Timms MP

Great picture from tonight's canvass in Beckton for the the Newham Council by-election next Thursday 18 July. Sir Stephen Timms came to support Blossom. Stephen use to be the local MP before recent boundary changes. He remains the MP for East Ham and we all congratulated him on his recent appointment as a Minister of State in the new Labour Government.

What was pretty amazing is the number of residents who came out to thank Stephen personally for his help and support with their personal issues as the local MP. It shows the cynics that elections and personal representation  matter. Blossom will be an excellent Councillor and will no doubt carry out the proud tradition of personal representation typified by Stephen and James (Asser the new MP). Not forgetting the other important local by election in Little Ilford next Thursday which I will be supporting and post upon over the weekend.

Vote Labour on 4 July: Labour Unions

This evening I was collecting more "James Asser" for West Ham & Beckton leaflets from the printers and delivering them to our HQ and our by election candidate in Beckton ward, Blossom.

Today I also had National leaflets from Labour Unions, which is the organisation set up by trade unions who are affiliated to the Labour Party - see below.

I am confident that we get all these important leaflets delivered.

It never ceases to amaze me how some trade unionists don't get how important it is to elect a Labour Government. The Tories in the last 14 years have done their very best to destroy us. Thankfully we have just about survived but history tells us that to organise and win for members we must have fairness (not favours) in Parliament.

I have never agreed 100% with any Labour Leader or all Labour Policies (when I first joined the Party it's leader was James Callaghan).

But I have always agreed with the manta "that the worse day in any Labour Government (and there were some dreadful days) is far, far better than the best day of any Conservative Government". Vote Labour. A vote for any other party is likely to be a vote for the Tories

The 11 trade unions affiliated to the Labour Party are:

Launch of Campaign by James Asser to be the Labour MP of West Ham & Beckton

Great picture from today's launch in Beckton, Newham and apologies for last minutes changes to venue. We also had with us Stephen Timms (standing again for East Ham), new candidate, Uma Kumaran (who had a fantastic launch in Stratford earlier), for Stratford & Bow, former West Ham MP Lyn Brown, Newham Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz  and Labour London Assembly member for City & East Umesh Desai. As well as local Councillors and activists.

Afterwards we split up into 4 canvass teams to support James and my fellow East End housing worker Blossem Young (right of picture), who is standing for the Beckton Council seat vacated by James. Will post again on this canvass, Uma's launch and the other Newham by elections. A lot going on.
