She lost because she was black, jewish and a women. <br /><br />If a similar competant white christain male had been the MP at the time he would have won.John Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14269161145575667147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7733583.post-3799199281610896972012-04-05T00:18:24.909+01:002012-04-05T00:18:24.909+01:00Hi anon 9.03.

At the risk of being a bore I have been a political activists since I was 15 and have fought elections in Wales, Leeds, Scotland, Essex and London. I have never ever seen such a dirty and nasty election campaign as run by Galloway. Yes, the mistake of the Labour Party was to ignore him but all this has nothing whatever to do with mainstream politics.John Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14269161145575667147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7733583.post-6050225645281408882012-04-04T18:46:44.608+01:002012-04-04T18:46:44.608+01:00Also worth pointing out, despite what the blog say...Also worth pointing out, despite what the blog says, Oona King was not a very effective MP and many of us were amazed when she was elevated to a peerage. It seemed like a reward for failure. However much one detests Galloway and his tactics, the Labour Party in Tower Hamlets got too complacent and it would seem as if they have made the same mistake in Bradford. The Labour Party has simply lost its way, and it is o their shame that the void they leave is filled by people like Galloway.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7733583.post-40165466111682715072012-04-04T09:03:40.653+01:002012-04-04T09:03:40.653+01:00John. I dont care much for individuals promoting themselves in politics and it seems to me that it was deep felt issues that won the election for GG. I am not convinced either that the campaign preyed on community fears (all parties have been guilty of that, using smears threats and lies, over the years to some degree.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7733583.post-67481365597087508672012-04-04T08:31:08.705+01:002012-04-04T08:31:08.705+01:00Hi anon

The usual smears, threats and lies (as well as genuine grievances about the war in Afghanistan) but nothing to do with a “left platform”. If so why did he lose so decisively in Tower Hamlets or Scotland? <br /><br />Labour got a deserved kicking since we had obviously forgotten that the stench of Galloway can turn minds as well as repel so we ignored him and the rest is history.John Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14269161145575667147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7733583.post-20446912083466849972012-04-04T07:52:08.498+01:002012-04-04T07:52:08.498+01:00"Whilst Galloway’s core supporters are rallyi..."Whilst Galloway’s core supporters are rallying and celebrating, many local people will be feeling uncomfortable with what’s been done, or nervous of the consequences"<br />.<br />The huge swing in favour of Galloway is more than just 'core' supporters. It consists of many 'local people'. That claim above doesnt stand up.Labour has to address the issue of why a left political platform which is anti cuts and anti war produced such a large swing on a big turn out for a bye election. This post doesnt address this point. This post hasnt learned any lessons.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
