Abdal Ullah for Wimbledon?

Abdal is an elected Councillor and Cabinet member in Tower Hamlets. He has been short listed as a prospective Parliamentary candidate for Wimbledon CLP. This is a Tory marginal.
He has always been very positive and constructive about trade unions. He’s a hard working canvasser and campaigner. Pity he is in the GMB. Abdal is part of a new generation of Labour Londoners who can appeal across all sections of the community, young and old. He would be just the sort candidate to help the local Party defeat the Tories at the next election
The hustings will be held tomorrow. There are only 380 eligible members. Every vote could count. Local activists tell me he is a “front runner”.

Good for Abdal! What's wrong with being a member of the GMB?!

"Pity he is in the GMB."

What does that mean?

Sorry Mirana, nothing at all wrong with being a GMB member! Just that if Adbal was a UNISON member and had been approved by the UNISON Parliamentary Panel we could have been much more “pro-active” in supporting his campaign.

Just heard that Dan Lodge has won. Congratulations to Dan and commiserations to Abdal and the others. I believe that this was the first seat he has gone for so it would have been good experience for him.
